Community Guidelines

San Antonio Tangueros is committed to creating and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for all members of our tango community. We strive to provide a harassment-free environment for every participant—regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, race, religion, body size, dance experience, or background.

We do not tolerate harassment, discrimination, or disruptive behavior of any kind. Anyone engaging in such behavior may be asked to leave an event without a refund and may face further action at the discretion of San Antonio Tangueros leadership.

Below are our community norms and code of conduct guidelines. These expectations apply to all San Antonio Tangueros events, classes, and gatherings.

Everyone should feel welcome.

Everyone should feel comfortable.

Respect All Participants

We expect everyone to treat others with dignity, kindness, and respect. Discrimination, harassment, or exclusionary behavior will not be tolerated.

Establish Consent Clearly

Consent is essential. Always ask before initiating a dance, dips, hugs, or close physical contact. "No" and "not now" are complete answers and should always be respected without question.

Dance Any Role, Support All Roles

Everyone is free to dance in any role—leader, follower, or both—regardless of gender identity or experience level. We celebrate the fluidity and freedom of tango roles.

Be Mindful of Boundaries

Respect personal space on and off the dance floor. If someone expresses discomfort, adjust your behavior immediately. If you're made aware of an issue or a boundary, listen without defensiveness and take responsibility.

Come Prepared and Present

Arrive ready to learn and dance. Be sober and attentive during classes and events. Proper footwear, hygiene, and self-awareness make for a better experience for everyone.

Keep the Floor Safe and Inclusive

Practice good floorcraft. Avoid lifts, acrobatics, or disruptive movements during social dancing. Keep the safety of everyone on the floor in mind.

Feedback Etiquette

Refrain from giving unsolicited feedback during social dances. If feedback is requested, offer it with care and sensitivity. If you receive unsolicited feedback, feel empowered to set boundaries.

Respect Event Spaces

Follow any posted or stated venue rules. Alcohol, food, or special attire may be permitted at some events and not others. Please check before bringing anything or dressing casually.

Speak Up and Support One Another

If you witness or experience behavior that violates this code, speak up if you feel safe to do so. Reach out to an organizer or board member—we are here to support you.
